Ida was one in a million. To family, friends, and all that knew her, she was a treasure of continuous kindness, support and inspiration. She approached life in a light-hearted way, and was happiest when dedicating her time to helping others, with a special passion for the intellectually handicapped. She is famous around the world for her squares and goodies.

Ida passed away in her 97th year. Born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, she maintained close ties to The Maritimes throughout her life. She was the first child of the late Red Hugh and Jennie Mclean, sister of the late Angus Windsor MacLean. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Rupert Cunard Morris, and proud mother of Jennifer, Patricia, Louise (Stephen Marten), Evelyn (Anthony Quinlan) and Janet (Sean Guest). She will be greatly missed by her eight wonderful grandchildren, Ella, Ira, Benjamin, Jayne, Ruby, Alice, Sam and Connor, and her beautiful great granddaughter Nell.

She graduated from Mt Alison university in Home Economics in 1944 and moved to Montreal where she interned at the Royal Victoria Hospital. She met Don on a blind date at the Simpson Theatre, and they were married in 1952. Through Don’s career with Alcan they were posted in the Saguenay region, Kitimat (B.C.), Lynemouth (England) and Montreal. Ida especially enjoyed her time in England where she developed a passion for touring countryside churches and brass rubbing.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Island Association for the Intellectually Handicapped (WIAIH) or a charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be planned by the family once they are able to do so.
