<div itemprop="description">James (Jim) Francis Dawes, an adventurist, athlete, carpenter, world traveler, story teller, devoted husband, father and grandfather left us on Wednesday, June 16th just a couple of weeks after celebrating his eighty-ninth year. He leaves behind his loving wife of fifty-four years, Lorna and their children, Belinda (Derek Platt and granddaughters, Emmah and Camrynn) and Matthew (Julie Labreque and grandsons, Liam and Noah). He is Survived by his younger brother, John Dawes (Kay), sister-in-law, Linda Collin (Claude) and brother-in-law, Gary Hood. He is predeceased by his parents, Molly and Frank Dawes, sister and brother-in-law, Beryl and Eric Liverpool, in-laws, Eileen and Frank Hood, sister-in-law, Trina Hood and brother-and-sister in law, Frank and Lise Hood. He also leaves behind many treasured Australian and Canadian nieces and nephews. <br> <br>Jim’s journey began on June 2nd, 1932 in Sydney, Australia to parents Frank and Molly. An avid surfer and sailor at Bondi Beach later becoming a lifeguard for the North Bondi Surf Club, a rugby union player and competitive cyclist, he relished his Australian heritage. He left to see the world on a gap year <br>arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia at Pier 21 in 1954. He hitchhiked to Montreal where his love for Canada began. In a few short years, he found himself working as a commercial pilot, flight engineer and aircraft maintenance engineer for Nordair, thus beginning his passion for flying and everything to do with planes. He travelled frequently to the Canadian Arctic to transport supplies for the DEW Line. In 1967, Jim met the love of his life, Lorna, a glamorous Air <br>Canada flight attendant on a blind date. They married shortly after and began their lives together, welcoming their two children. His life was filled with travelling, working hard, enjoying all of life’s moments and persevering through challenging times. He was well known as the man with the Aussie accent, a firm handshake and a t’shirt he proudly wore, “I may not always be right, but I’m never wrong”. <br> <br>The family will receive condolences at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd., Dollard-des-Ormeaux, on Saturday June 27 2021 from 3.30 to 5.30 pm . followed by the funeral service at 5h30pm. DU to t he current circumstances, rotation will be permitted for the visitation period, service will be restricted to family and guests by invitation only.
