Shortly after her 94th birthday, Janine passed away peacefully in her sleep in Montreal August 5th, 2022. She was passionate about art, music, literature and theater. She was a vivid presence at the Thomas Moore Institute in the early years of it's mission to provide advanced adult education. As an esteemed bilingual volunteer and later director of the Art Sales and Rental Gallery at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts for over a quarter century, Janine nurtured a vibrant venue where people interested in art were introduced to a wonderful assemblage of art from Montreal's galleries and professional artists. She was beloved by many artists for working enthusiastically to further their careers, and admired for initiating a successful program to rent artwork to many national and international companies and movies.

Janine loved to travel and was a nature lover who sailed, skiied, cherished her gardens, winter cottages in the Townships and walking the beaches of her beloved PEI for hours. A consummate hostess, she loved cooking, stimulating conversations, and to laugh, dance, play cards and enjoy fine wines.

She will be deeply missed by her dear sister Diane Cooke Sheikh, former brother-in-law Kib, daughter Suezan and son-in-law Sam, son Steve and partner Hannah, former daughter-in-law Leslie, daughters Tana Karen, Lisa and son-in-law Daniel, son Greg and daughter-in-law Mary, by grandchildren Asrey, Soe Paing, Lauren, Kelly, Nick, Brooke, Scott, Christopher, Nathalie, Matthieu, Michael, Taylor and Christianne, and by great grandchildren Amara, Sovann, Finn, Ola and Svaere. Her family are so grateful to Janine's devoted companion Renee Pauzé, who lovingly enriched Janine's life for many years, especially in her final difficult months.

A celebration of life and funeral will be held at St. Ignatius of Loyola, Montreal West at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Montreal's Sun Youth Organization or to the Salvation Army.
