In the early morning of June 2, Joseph Soul passed away peacefully at the age of 96. He was the devoted husband of Mary Soul for more than 60 years, and father to sons Colin, Graham and his partner Pierre Gélinas, daughter Janet and her husband Michael Pinholster.

Joe grew up in London, England, except for much of his adolescence when he was evacuated during World War II. He graduated with an Engineering degree from Imperial College and emigrated to Canada after the war to seek a better life. He worked at Marconi and RCA but spent most of his career at Spar Aerospace where he managed the antenna group. He met his wife Mary playing tennis in Montreal, where they subsequently married, settled and raised their three children. He played soccer and cricket as a young man in England, but took up bicycling, running, and cross country skiing in Canada. He brought his children on bike rides, hikes, and ski trips to give his wife a break and wear them out. He loved gardening together with his wife, listening to music, particularly opera, and going to theatre and music performances. He especially enjoyed photography and film, making and editing films of family and vacations, eventually moving on to digital film and video media. For many years, he was involved with and headed his local prostate cancer support group. He was very devoted to his wife Mary through her years with dementia and was very proud of his three children’s careers and accomplishments.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or the Jewish General Hospital Foundation.
https://alzheimer.ca/en/Home/Get-involved/Ways-to-donate
https://www.jghfoundation.org/en/donations/products
