It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth Ian Trasler on November 7, 2024, at the age of 95 years.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years, Marion, he will be greatly missed by his children, Debbie Smith (Ernie), Nancy Lecomte (Robert), and Scott Trasler (Danielle). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Wendy, Kevin, Alexandra (Jonny), Breanne (Brody), Madison, Jace, and Blake and great granddaughter Blakely. He was predeceased by his father Cyril Trasler, mother Mary Parnell, and his brother Frank.
Ian devoted thirty five years to education with the PSBGM (Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal), as an elementary and high school teacher, vice principal, principal, Assistant Director of Personnel and Deputy Director General of the school board. Upon his retirement in 1986, he was honoured with various Distinguished Service Awards by his colleagues. Following his retirement, he continued to make significant contributions to his field, and at the age of 89, he was granted the QPARSE (Quebec Provincial Association of Retired School Educators) Service Award.
While fully dedicated to his career, he was even more devoted to his wife and three children. Ever the enthusiastic handyman, he designed and built the family cottage overlooking Lake McDonald in the Laurentians, a project that would take three summers to complete. Following family and career, it proved to be his third greatest accomplishment and enduring legacy. “The cottage” remains a cherished family vacation spot to this day, long after his children have grown and had families of their own.
Ian will be sorely missed by the staff and many friends at the Lumia Retirement Residence in Pointe-Claire, where he played poker and pool, and took part in the acting group.
To honour Ian’s wishes, there will be a private service for close family and friends.
Throughout his life, Ian was committed to helping others and supporting important causes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
