It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sam Gatelaro on April 14, 2018 in his 86th year. After a lengthy illness he is now at peace.

Sam will be deeply missed by his son John, daughter Marlene, grandchildren Elizabeth and Frederick and their father Freddy, brother Dominic (late Yolande), sister Ida (Rinaldo), friend Garry, and beloved friend Linda. He will also be missed by his cousin Judy (Mario); his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and many other relatives and wonderful friends. Sam was predeceased by his wife Lynda who passed away in 2005.

Sam's great passions in life were his career and his art; both brought him much happiness and satisfaction. His career in aviation spanned several decades, three of which were at Air Canada. After leaving Air Canada as Superintendent, Boeing 747 and Lockheed L-1011 Programs, he moved on to Nationair where he became Vice President, Maintenance and Engineering. After retiring from Nationair in 1989, Sam went on to travel the world performing aviation quality audits for various airlines, and teaching airline management courses for the International Air Transport Association (IATA). After winding down his career, he kept busy by creating beautiful watercolours and oil paintings, collecting art, and serving as the President of the Arts Club of Montreal.

Sam's kindness and generosity have touched the lives of many. He lived life to the fullest and one can truly say that he did it "his way".

The family will receive condolences at the Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 Sources Blvd., DDO, QC, H9B 2A6, (514) 685-3344 on Wednesday, April 25th, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A memorial service will take place from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The burial will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in Sam's name.

The family would like extend their heartfelt thanks to Gill, Richard, Jim, and Eddy who visited regularly; your presence in Sam's life helped him tremendously. We would also like to thank the staff and caregivers at the Sunrise Residence of Dollard-des-Ormeaux for their compassion and excellent care.
