It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vita Somogyi on Sunday September 25th after a long battle with cancer. In 1943 she was born a twin to her late sister Iolanda in a small town in southern Italy and later immigrated to Canada when she was 9 years old. She married in 1964 and built a beautiful life with her family in Candiac. She joins her late husband Herbert, and is survived by her daughter Helena and son Andreas, and was a very proud Nona to her grandchildren Ryan, Shane and Kiki. She will be missed by her surviving sister Sabina (late husband Michaele) in Italy, her surviving brother Ralph (Tonia) in New York, brother-in-law Helmut in Kelowna BC, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Named Vita at birth, meaning "life" in Italian, could not have embodied her namesake any better. Larger than life itself and a force of nature, she will be remembered for her vivacious personality, with an energy and presence that lit up a room. Generous and caring to an absolute fault, gave unconditionally to all those she loved. People gravitated to her not just for how great she was to be around but for her wise advice and her very bold frankness always keeping it real. She was known for giving the "look" if she disapproved which her grandchildren often chuckled about. For many years she was an integral part of the ASCOM community and was aka "Mama Corleone". Many will remember her for her boisterous laugh, her big heart her beautifully tended-to rock garden and her well-stocked kitchen staples.

As a fierce business owner and partner with her late husband, and after many hard-working years, both decided to retire and live out their retirement in beautiful Kelowna BC. Born with a natural green thumb, Vita turned their backyard into an award-winning garden oasis where she could be found working on everyday. She later returned to Montreal to be closer to her immediate family and friends when Herbert passed away in 2016.

Vita's passing will leave an incredible void and she will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on within anyone who ever had the incredible privilege of knowing her.

May she rest in peace.
