It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Yuk Wong Chui, who passed away on September 20th, 2024 at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal, Quebec. Mr. Chui was a man of remarkable strength and resilience, fighting bravely until the very end. Surrounded by the unwavering love of his family, he peacefully passed with them by his side.
Born in Bao An, Canton, China, he was the youngest of his siblings. After moving to Hong Kong while still a teenager, he bravely travelled to Brazil in 1966 to start a new life. Brazil holds a special place in his heart as it was where he honed his culinary skills and began his cooking career. It was also where he became an avid soccer fan and would cheer on Brazil for every World Cup and international match since. He later moved to Montreal where he would obtain his Canadian citizenship.
In 1974, he returned to Hong Kong where he met and married his wife Wai Chun. They settled in Montreal where they started their family. He was an extremely hard worker, dedicated to providing for his family and building a life they could all be proud of.
Mr. Chui was a man of understated elegance, always impeccably dressed and well-mannered. While he may have appeared reserved to acquaintances, those closest to him knew a different side – a playful, fun-loving individual with a quick wit and infectious sense of humour. To his children, he was the coolest dad.
With a passion for history and geography, he delighted in sharing tales of his adventures. He loved food, and was always eager to cook, taste and discover. From international cuisines to homemade specialties, he cherished every aspect of food culture. He spent the last few years passing down family recipes to his children.
Predeceased by his father Sing Lun Chui (1943) and mother Koon Chea Ho (1996), he is survived by his loving wife Wai Chun, and his beloved daughters Maylin, Betty, Lana, Lisa, and Nancy.
He will be greatly missed. His legacy of hard work, honesty, and integrity will continue to guide and inspire his children.
May he rest in peace.
